Phoenix, Arizona (January 30, 2008) – The Luther Law Firm, founded by Barb Luther, received its Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) certification today. The certification is issued by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council and used by companies that want to demonstrate their commitment to pursuing diversity initiatives, including the hiring of WBE legal counsel.
Ms. Luther, a highly respected AV rated intellectual property attorney, began practicing law 19 years ago at a time when most of patent attorneys were male. “I was the only woman in the room at client meetings and firm strategy sessions,” recalls Barb.
Early in her career, Barb worked with licensees of Stanford University, developing and protecting their patents, which have withstood court challenge, generated a seven-figure court settlement and produce millions annually from licenses to many household-name corporations. She also spearheaded an effort that resulted in the US Patent office issuing new Utility Guidelines with clear grounds for issuing medical patents, including those for genomics, pharmaceuticals and neutraceuticals.
An entrepreneur and lawyer, Barb created her firm to not only provide superior quality legal services at competitive rates, but also to fulfill her mission to help businesspeople protect their patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets so that they position themselves to maximize the value of those assets. “I get a kick out of forwarding the business interests of clients and hope the WBE certification will help you reach out to an even broader client base”.
